## Click-to-call vs a phone number, WhatsApp or a contact form on a financial website

Four ways to let website visitors reach a brokerage, AMC or adviser, compared on desktop reach, routing, recording, records and impersonation risk.

A visitor reading your IPO note or fund factsheet wants to ask a question. You can offer them a phone number, a WhatsApp link, a contact form or a Call button. Each one loses a different group of people, and for a regulated firm each one leaves a different kind of record. Here is how they compare.

### The comparison

| Phone number | WhatsApp | Contact form | Browser click-to-call |
Works on a laptop | Rarely | Only with WhatsApp Web set up | Yes | Yes |
Talks now, not later | Yes | Usually a chat first | No | Yes |
Reaches the right desk | Via an IVR menu | Whoever holds the phone | After triage | By page and topic |
Agent knows the page and campaign | No | No | If the form captures it | Yes |
Recorded under a firm policy | If the phone system records | Hard to enforce | Not a call | Per department |
Missed contact becomes a lead | Only with call tracking | If someone notices | Yes | Yes, with a callback deadline |

### Phone number

Familiar and trusted, and it works well on mobile. On a laptop, clicking it opens a FaceTime, Phone Link or Teams prompt, or nothing at all; we wrote up [what desktop visitors actually see](https://callceptor.com/guides/tel-links-on-desktop/). Calls that do get through arrive with no context, often after an IVR has sent them to the wrong team.

### WhatsApp

Most of your clients already use it, which makes it a good channel for updates. As a calling channel for a regulated firm it is harder: calls land on individual phones, routing between desks is manual, and applying one recording and retention policy across many personal accounts is difficult. Fraudsters also impersonate brokers and advisers on WhatsApp, so clients are right to be wary of unknown numbers there.

### Contact form

Easy for the visitor and easy to route, but nothing happens until someone reads it. A prospect who wanted to ask a question now waits for a call from a number they don't know. Forms work best as the fallback when nobody can take a call, which is how CallCeptor uses its pre-call form.

### Browser click-to-call

Works on desktop and mobile, starts from your own verified website, and carries the page, campaign and topic to the agent before they answer. Its weak points are visitors who block the microphone and in-app browsers that don't allow it, which is why a callback option belongs next to the button. The details of how it connects are in [what is browser calling](https://callceptor.com/guides/what-is-browser-calling/).

### What most firms end up with

- A Call button on research, product and account-opening pages, routed by page.
- The phone number kept visible as a fallback, especially on mobile.
- A callback form for after hours, with a deadline your team commits to.
- WhatsApp for notifications and service updates rather than advisory conversations.

### Quick answers

#### Is click-to-call better than a phone number on a website?

On desktop, yes: a phone number can't be clicked into a call on most laptops, while a browser Call button works on desktop and mobile. On mobile, both work, but click-to-call also carries the page and campaign the caller came from.

#### Should financial firms use WhatsApp for client calls?

WhatsApp is convenient, but calls on personal or shared WhatsApp accounts are hard to route, record under a firm-wide policy and audit. Many regulated firms keep WhatsApp for notifications and use a recorded channel for conversations.

#### Do contact forms convert worse than calls?

A form is easy to fill but slow to answer: the visitor waits, and by the time someone calls back the intent has often cooled. A form works best as the fallback when nobody is available to talk.
