The click-to-call button, explained for financial firms

A click-to-call button lets a website visitor talk to your team in one click. This page explains the three kinds, which one suits a broker, AMC or advisory firm, and how to add it.

What a click-to-call button does

Most firms put a phone number on the website and hope visitors dial it. On a desktop, the number is often just text, and on a phone the visitor leaves your page to make the call. A click-to-call button replaces the number with a button. The visitor clicks, and a call starts. Which kind of call depends on how the button is built.

CallCeptor is a browser calling button: the visitor allows the microphone, an agent answers in the browser, and the call runs over WebRTC with no phone number and no app on either side. If nobody can answer, the visitor leaves a callback request that lands in a lead inbox. Read what browser calling is for the mechanics.

What a financial firm should check

Setups differ by firm type: stock brokers, investment advisers and AMCs each have a page. To size the problem first, use the missed call cost calculator.

Add the button in one step

Paste this tag before the closing body tag of your site, with the site key from your dashboard. The step-by-step guide covers common website builders. The Free plan includes one agent and 100 browser minutes a month; see pricing.

Click-to-call questions

What is a click-to-call button?

A click-to-call button is a button on a web page that starts a call when a visitor clicks it. A tel: link hands the call to the visitor's phone, while a browser calling button like CallCeptor's connects the visitor to your team over WebRTC without a phone number.

Does a click-to-call button work on desktop?

A tel: link often does nothing on a desktop computer, because most desktops have no app set up for phone calls. A browser calling button works on desktop and mobile, because the call runs in the browser itself.

Do visitors need to install an app or share their phone number?

No. With browser calling the visitor clicks the button and allows the microphone. CallCeptor's pre-call form can ask for a name and a number so you can call back if the call is missed.

How do I add a click-to-call button to my website?

Paste one script tag into your site's HTML, set your site key, and the Call button appears. The step-by-step guide covers WordPress, Wix, Webflow and plain HTML.

Is a browser call secure enough for a financial firm?

Call audio in WebRTC is encrypted in transit with DTLS-SRTP. CallCeptor's security page lists where data is stored, how recording consent works and what is written to the audit log.

Put a Call button where your phone number is today.

Free for one person and 100 browser minutes a month. Larger firms can start with a pilot on one department.
